Where to Find Eki Stamps in Kyoto
This is a companion post to several other eki stamp location guides! It’s to give you some ideas about which eki stamps are available in Kyoto, and where to find them.
Kyoto actually has a ton of eki stamps, with nearly every train station having at least one stamp desk. At stations where more than one train line converge, they’ll have multiple stamps available! Sometimes they’re easy to spot because they signage will be clearly visible (and the desk is right next to the ticket gate) but sometimes they’re harder to find and you’ll need to ask staff for help.

Train Stations
Note: the subway stations no longer have eki stamps! However, all the major train stations seem to have at least one.
JR Inari Station
At the ticket counter, not sitting out in public so you have to ask for it from staff.
JR Kyoto Station
Inside the ticket gate, near the ticket counter.
JR Nijo Station (Nijo Castle)
Inside the ticket gate, very easy to find. It’s the heavy-duty kind where you need to insert a piece of paper and then pull the lever, so regular notebooks won’t fit under there. They had special matching paper when I went, but if they’re out you’ll need to use some scrap paper to get a stamp.
Arashiyama Station
Small stamp table right outside of the ticket gate, easy to find.
Torokko Arashiyama Station (Arashiyama Bamboo Forest)
This is NOT a JR station, it’s for the Sagano Romantic Train line between Kyoto Sagano and Arashiyama. The stamp is outside the ticket area in the waiting room. You don’t need to ride the train to get it.
Be warned! This is a very juicy stamp. It bled through my notebook page and messed up the stamps on the other side. 🙁
🌟Certain notebooks are better than others for stamp collecting. See my notebook recommendations here!
Katsura Station
Luckily the stamp tables on this train line are very easy to spot, even if they’re small. They’re all right next to the ticket gates and they have purple signage.
Tourist Stops
Fukuchiyama Castle
At the entrance, after paying for entrance fee.
Kyoto City Museum of Art
Has a really cute stamp station in the main exhibit hall! Must buy a ticket to get into the museum and get the stamps. There’s three images: the museum mascot, and two script seals. What’s fun about this one is the stamps are all made from different materials!
Kyoto Tower
On the Kyoto Tower Observatory deck; you have to pay for the entrance fee to get the stamp.
Nijo Castle
Located inside, at the rest area. Must pay for entrance fee to get the stamp.
Other Stamps
Traveler’s Factory Store
Has lots of neat Kyoto stamps you can get, for free! This is also a good place to pick up a traveler’s notebook cover or special edition insert. I’ve visited every Traveler’s Factory in Japan and written about them here, if you’re interested.
